The Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct provide that a lawyer who has been certified as a specialist in an area of practice by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization may state such. Likewise, lawyers who are not certified in an area of practice or whose area is not yet recognized for certification by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization must also state that they are not certified. The Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education currently offers certification in the following areas: Accounting Malpractice, Business Bankruptcy, Civil Trial Practice, Consumer Bankruptcy, Creditors Rights, Criminal Trial, Elder Law, Estate Planning, Legal Malpractice, and Medical Malpractice.
